Volvo Tandem Rollers Find Favour From Fork Rent Breaking with tradition nation-wide equipment hirer Fork Rent PLC of Ipswich Suffolk has opted for ten Volvo DD25w tandem rollers following a successful trial and evaluation of Volvo’s latest 2.5 tonne machine. “The initial trials we undertook with the DD25w proved very successful,” comments Chairman Guy Nicholls. “We also liked the build quality, modern design and not

least the safety features that are built in as standard which were an important selling point. Our customers, especially local authorities and highways agencies demand only the best and the DD25w in our opinion is,” he continues. The Volvo DD25w double drum compactor

weighs in at 2.6 tonnes and features a drum width of 1.2 metres. The drums feature dual frequencies operating at either 55Hz or 67 Hz for optimal impact and delivering nominal amplitude of .53 cm. A 260 litre pressurized water feed system is directed via four nozzles per drum working in conjunction with spring loaded, self adjusting urethane wipers. The DD25w affords excellent visibility to the drum edges forward and backward for the machine operator. The machined drum surface with radiused and chamfered edges produce a professional quality finish on each job and a closed loop hydrostatic drive system provides seamless direction changes and a maximum speed of up to 10 kph. Other features on the DD25w that impressed

Mr Nicholls were the layout of the engine compartment, the ease of maintenance and the niche touches around the machine to aid routine servicing such as the accessibility to the filters and remote drain lines for engine and hydraulic oil.
