Jimmy Griffith built the Skyfarer (at left) from an old set of RCMplans that he enlarged to a 72-inch wing span. Power comes from a Turnigy 3040A motor running on a 3S 3300 mAh Li-Po battery. The National Balsa full wood kit of the Nick Ziroli Ercoupe(above) is a fun and fast way to get a large project underway. Excellent laser cutting and plans build manual really keep construction moving.

ered modeler-built aircraft. Pete and Car- olynn Foss flew their 13-inch skeletonized foam WWI fighters covered with Microlite. Bob Wilder used scale drawings to build his stick and tissue covered Eindecker. With a hotel across the street that has event discount rates the JR Indoor is a sure bet for a weekend of Indoor fun. Next year’s dates are November 1, 2 and 3.

Tony Stamp reports: “My friend Jimmy Griffith built the Skyfarer from an old set of RCM plans that I had gotten many years ago. He expanded [the design] to a 72-inch wing span and powered it with a Turnigy 3040A motor running on a 3S 3300 mAh Li- Po battery. The covering material is Tow- erKote and the plane weighs in at 6 pounds, 2 ounces. A bit of trivia on our flying field here in Dunlap, TN. There are about six of us involved with R/C aircraft and we have an ideal place to fly. Over 100 acres of flat hayfield with a 3,000-foot mowed airstrip in the middle. The owner of the field makes specialized parachutes used by many sky diving teams. One of his parachutes was re- cently in the news as it was used by the su- personic skydiver a month or two ago.”

Project update My Ziroli Ercoupe is being built from a Na- tional Balsa www.nationalbalsa.com laser- cut, full wood kit with plans, cowl and parts from Nick Ziroli Plans www.ziroliplans.com. My large builds to date were all scratchbuilt which had me spending quite a bit of time “creating a kit” before construction could be- gin. The clean laser cutting by National Bal- sa has you ready to start assembly in min- utes rather than weeks. Parts match to plans was excellent and laser marked parts helped identify them easily. Nick Ziroli Plans in- cludes a construction manual which is a great help during construction. Bob Smith Industries www.bsi-inc.com ad- hesives were used throughout the build. You can always count on fresh high quality adhe- sives from BSI. If you are unsure of the best adhesive to use the folks at BSI are ready to help. Call or write for your free guide to us- ing CyA and Epoxy adhesives. I’m sure you will learn something that sticks. The fuse is built on a crutch which keeps everything straight and true. The wing cen- ter section is built with dihedral in place. The construction manual accompanying the plans takes you through this step without any problems for a fun building experience.

SKS Video Productions has released their latest video covering all the highlights of the 2012 NEAT Fair, held at the Peaceful Valley Campgrounds buried deep in the Catskills of New York. The flight line included sepa- rate heli and park flyer areas, as well as six center stations for the main event. This year’s coverage takes a look at the wide variety of the electric flying as well as the latest in electric R/C products at the event. This video is available in DVD or Blu- ray. At this year’s E-Jets meet I noted more than a few models having good flights using Glacier Li-Po packs in the demanding EDF environment. A Glacier 4S 3300 30C Li- Po pack was exchanged for the current two- year-old pack in my E-flite F-86. I noticed an immediate performance increase, starting with the takeoff, and the pack was cool on landing. Till next time fly safely.
