The basic body of the cowl (at left) is made from 1⁄2-inch balsa sheet built up and carved to shape. The top portion is glued to the ply firewall and the joint taped over. The removable cowl has a 1⁄8-inch ply back which attaches to blind nuts in the rear of the engine ply firewall. The side cheeks are made from 1⁄2-inch balsa. Windshield piece W1 (above) is made from thin manila folder cardboard and has a balsa strip glued on the back centerline for support. The front side is covered with aluminum MonoKote.
