Village leader Xie Liang-zhong speaks about how ELCA World Hunger is help- ing Liming.

 39

Chao Wan-shen remembers the days when he relied on the good rains, which are few and far between in the region, for things to grow. “Goats are good for the area,” he said. “They provide a steady income.” His family is now one of 13 in San-li-jiu that have a total of 400 goats. Xie continues to plan ahead. He wants to help other hamlets find this better way of life and move out of hunger and poverty. So he is working on a three-pronged approach for each community: walnut trees, goats and grass (to feed the animals). The provincial government helps with some of this. But Xie hopes the ELCA will continue to look favorably on the Lisu people, to bring hope and new life among the many communi- ties spread throughout the mountains of Liming. 
