Cocoon Recordings is back in full force with the follow-up to last year’s superb vinyl compilation ‘Dots & Pearls’. Providing a tracklisting – including Subb-an, Martinez and Ambivalent - that gathers the freshest names in house, techno and tech-house, ‘Dots & Pearls II’ eschews monotonous loops and predictable formulas to deliver a selection packed with energy and depth.
Nihil Young
Various Artists Art Department Social
Experiment 003 No. 19 Music
9.0
Featuring 14 tracks with some of the biggest and brightest names in electronic music making an appearance, this selection introduces eight exclusive previously unheard cuts from the likes of Jamie Jones and My Favorite Robot, the whole thing tied together seamlessly by Art Department’s creative vision. Bookended by a pair of their own exclusives in the shape of ‘Into The Dust Intro’ and ‘Insomniac’, the tracks provide an emotive and intense journey through the realms of twisted house, deep techno and afterhours grooves, setting uplifting vocal compositions alongside rolling instrumental workouts as only Jonny and Kenny know how.
Piemont
The Gap EP Mr. Carter 7.0
Frederic Moering-Sack and Christian Jonqueieres are a prolific pair. Under their Piemont moniker, they’ve released music for a number of stellar imprints such as My Best Friend, Reposal Schallware and Terminal M. A propensity for melody and diversity has become their trademark, and it’s one they explore again to devastating effect on this most recent endeavour.

djmag.com Didier Morris
Suspicious Love EP Southern Fried Records 8.0
The latest from Fatboy Slim’s record label kicks off with bubbling house number ‘Her Demands’ which sees Morris layer simple drum patterns over a rolling bassline, enriched with heavily delayed vocals and intense pads. Next up is the wonderfully understated ‘NoBabyMommaDrama’, a track that melds a bass-driven rhythm section with atmospheric spoken word vocals to great effect. Awesome stuff.
Jamie Kidd
Inner Nature EP Bohemian Yacht Club 8.0
Bohemian Yacht Club was birthed as a boat cruise event, taking to the seas surrounding Toronto and Miami and welcoming guests such as Art Department, Maceo Plex and Maya Jane Coles. This is another outstanding launch for Bohemian Yacht Club and leaves an interesting prospect of what’s to come.
Danny Technici
Nova Riddem Funktion Recordings 8.0
Danny Technici makes his debut release on Funktion with a prime-time house groover that juxtaposes a smooth laden funk sample, oozing sexiness, with main room floor-filling beats that manage to straddle the fine line between the popularity of big room and the coolness of the
underground. On remix duties, Andrey Zenkoff returns once again with his signature sound, pulling in a walloping bassline groove and riding the dusty samples all the way through to create a pure soulful groove that relentlessly locks you in from beginning to end.
Alex Niggemann
Paranoid Funk (Remixes) Poker Flat 7.0
Alex Niggemann’s 2012-defining long-player ‘Paranoid Funk’ was dropped in June to a rapturous response from DJs, dancers and home listeners alike. Here, Poker Flat Recordings revisits some of the exceptional highlights of that record, and deliver a remix package sure to be equally sought-after by those in the know with mixes from Alex Flatner & LOPAZZ, Salvatore Freda, Andre Lodemann and more.
Piek
Hemingway Fiakun
7.0
The A-side features the original version of ‘Hemingway’, a richly produced, disco-inflected house outing that fuses warm electronic bass, retro keys and rolling percussion to create a stunning soundbed for Fitch’s vocals. The flipside sees ‘Hemingway’ handed over to remixers M.V.I.P., better known to the world as Mathias Vogt and Ian Pooley, who deliver a version that journeys into techier territory with its tight drum programming and old school house influences working a treat.
MANUEL DE LA MARE HOTFINGERS/TOOLROOM (ITALY) 01. GREGOR TRESHER‘About A Good Place (Original Mix)’ Cocoon
Recordings “Beautifully experimental, it delivers a special journey from the most subtle parts in the drops to the culmination.”
02. PAOLO MOJO ‘My Children (Original Mix)’ 303lovers “We just released this on our 303lovers label, a catchy dirty bassline groove and many
additional vocals that Paolo has used to build the story.” 03. LUIGI ROCCA & PIATTO ‘Cosmic Girl (Original Mix)’ Toolroom
Records “This is the sexiest track Luigi Rocca did, the vocals and the break are so dark, dreamy and sensual.”
04. HOXTON WHORES ‘The Message (Original Mix)’ Alleanza “One of my tracks of the year. It’s all about the build up with a noisy rap vocal in the
break before a monster bassline enters after the drop.”
05. ALEX GOMES & BIAS ‘Candela (Original Mix)’ 303lovers “Another track from the 303lovers family! I played this so many times last summer in
Ibiza, and I’m glad also other friends like Wally Lopez supported it.”
06. NICE7 ‘New York (Original Mix)’ Area Remote “A piano, a bassline, a kick and a hi-hat-snare loop. It’s very simple but it sounds
so dirty.”
07. TOM MIDDLETON ‘Penrose Steps (Original Mix)’ Ovum Recordings “Luigi Rocca played this in Mexico some weeks ago. It immediately became part of
my sets.” 08. SAM PAGANINI, MINICOOLBOYZ ‘Miss You (Original Mix)’ Ter-
minal M “The best part in this track are the vocals in the drop. Even at an after-party at 10am, when you listen to this you have to put your hands up!”
09. PACO MAROTO ‘Make Your Path (Original Mix)’ 303lovers “Paco Maroto is a very good DJ and you can hear all his experience in this track. It has
all the right elements for making people dance.”
10. LEONARDO GONNELLI ‘Face To Face (Original Mix)’ Bla Bla “This is a strong tech house tune from an upcoming Italian artist. Pure groove and
some percussive elements in the drop make this a must for all DJs’ record bags.”
Unreal Definitive 8.0
After his huge success with John Acquaviva, Alex D’Elia and Dan
Diamond with ‘Good Music’, Nihil Young has spent the past year laying new roots in Berlin as a solo artist. He serves up two stellar club tracks and sets the tone in large fashion for 2013.
Tube & Berger
Introlution (Remixes) Kittball Records 8.0
Half a year after releasing their debut album ‘Introlution’, Tube & Berger are ready to present the remix version of their beloved masterpiece. Some of the hottest artists of modern electronic music are assembled on the package and the result is a devastating release. Remixers include Nice7, Rainer Weichhold, AKA AKA and more. Large!
