Power Tool Special
Power Tools – a buoyant market. In the present difficult economic climate the power tool industry is keeping a strong hold in the market. With the downturn in the property market there has been resurgence in DIY and home improvements and many consumers are either doing the job themselves or employing professionals to carry out the work. The introduction of ergonomically –designed tools makes it easier and more enjoyable for consumers to engage in DIY and the demand for power tools has led manufacturers to produce a wider range of tools, which are suitable for all budgets and capabilities. Lower value power tools are popular with customers who take on a single, small-scale DIY project and do not necessarily want to invest in durable power tools, preferring value instead. Others, however, would rather buy manufacturers' branded power tools. In response, brands that are well established in the professional sector are expanding into the consumer sphere to meet demand. Meanwhile the major manufacturers continue to invest in research and engineering expertise to produce ever more efficient and innovative products. Outstanding
design, technology and quality are all important factors as well as affordability and it is important for the retail sector to keep up to date with the wide range of new power tools coming to the market.
Makita’s 36v SDS Hammer Packs 2.5 Joules Of Impact Power • 26mm/1” drilling in concrete, 3-mode operation • Low vibration through damping handle • Quick-change chuck version available The latest version of Makita’s top-of-the-range cordless hammer drill, the mighty 36v BHR262 packs an Olympic 2.5 joules of impact energy which, when combined
with up to 4,800 impact blows per minute, will comfortably punch a 26mm hole into concrete. The BHR262 weighs in at 4.8kg of drilling muscle with a design layout that makes it a well balanced, hard working tool. The motor and 36v Lithium-ion battery are low down in the machine body which lowers the centre of gravity to give the operator well balanced control over the chuck accuracy. The battery can be removed from the machine and replaced by a battery adapter that allows the battery to be fitted to a belt holder with an umbilical power cord to the tool. This further reduces the hand-held weight of the machine for long job-time operations. The new Makita BHR262 provides three modes of operation selected by a turn-switch on the motor side casing. This can select rotary-only mode, rotary with
hammer action and hammer-only for heavy duty chiselling work. A fourth position on this switch enables the chuck to be turned through 360° to position the tool bit in any one of 40 locked positions without removing the bit from the chuck. The BHR262T version has a quick change chuck facility enabling a keyless 3-jaw chuck to be quickly installed replacing the SDS+ chuck. This machine will run up to 1,200rpm controlled by the variable speed trigger. An electronic brake cuts rotation on trigger release and with the side handle in place a torque limiter protects the operator by disengaging the drive if the bit snags and stops. A useful job-light switches on immediately the trigger is depressed.
