AND RECREATION
Rowing Center, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. The rowing center is the training ground for the school's men's and women's rowing teams. Refl ect- ing the school's long-standing participation in the sport of rowing, the renovation of the existing Collyer and Robison boathouses needed to serve the needs of Cornell's rowing teams, while at the same time look aesthetically pleasing for campus visitors. HGA Architects and Engineers took on the 31,360-square- foot renovation, located on the Cayuga Inlet. Zee Lock standing seam metal roof panels from Berridge Manufacturing Co. were added over the existing buildings and new additions to architecturally unify the facilities. In addition to the standing seam roof panels,
Pulver Roofi ng Co. installed corrugated metal wall panels and prefi nished metal soffi ts from ATAS International Inc. The corrugated metal panels visu- ally activated the main building entry spaces with texture, while the metal soffi ts were developed for some of the buildings utilizing the bold Cornell red color as an accent to the original building's nautical white backdrop. The total renovation includes a new addition of
housing locker room facilities, meeting spaces and a Tradition Room for displaying crew memorabilia links to the Collyer boathouse via a two-story entrance lob- by and second-fl oor-bridge. A new equipment stor- age facility on-site relates to the existing boathouses and team addition, and creates a village of indoor and outdoor spaces. Outdoor gathering spaces connect the entrance lobby and Tradition Room to the water- front and communal zones where boat trailering and washing are defi ned.
