Acquisition of SYNTHEON Inc. SYNTHEON Inc., the Pittsburgh manufacturer


of the ACCEL-E Steel Thermal Effi cient Panel wall system and ELEMIX concrete additive, has been acquired by Headwaters AG LLC and other private investors from NOVA Chemicals for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition of all SYNTHE- ON shares became effective December 4, 2012. The acquired SYNTHEON businesses encom-


pass ACCEL-E, ELEMIX and the SYNTHEON Chile operations, including its building products business and packaging business. Ricardo Wiener Strauss, the former general


manager of NOVA Chemicals Chile Limitada, San- tiago, Chile, has been named CEO of SYNTHEON. The new SYNTHEON President for North America is Peter A. Humphrey, PE, whose previous posi- tion with the company was director of design and engineering. Humphrey has 22 years of experience in building and construction as both a structural engineer and project manager.


An Apple-approved app from ATAS ATAS Complete Product Line App was created


to change the way people research and spec a project using Allentown, Pa.-based ATAS International Inc. products. Once downloaded to a tablet, the app works by swiping left to right to change products and swiping up and down to reveal more information about each product. The app takes users through recent project installations, as well as technical product information. If you need more de- tails-such as product drawings, spec data and load tables-you will be whisked to the ATAS website by clicking a button on each product page. melt shop on second anniversary ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA, Calvert, Ala., offi cially fi red up its fi nal production line. The Melt Shop is the last in a series of stainless steel manufacturing processes the company has brought online over the last three years to serve its customers in the North American Market. The offi cial startup of the Melt Shop occurred on the second anniversary of the Calvert production site's offi cial grand opening in December 2010, fulfi lling the site's capabilities as a fully integrated stainless steel manufacturing facility. The site now manufactures throughout the full


life cycle of stainless steel, from "cradle to grave," by reclaiming and melting scrap metal into molten

material, casting it into slabs, hot rolling it into coils, annealing and pickling the coils, cold rolling the material for strength and thickness, and fi nishing it according to the specifi cations of its North Ameri- can customers. The company fi rst launched its pro- duction at the new Calvert site in September 2009 serving customers by fi nishing products in varying stages of the production process and working back- wards until the offi cial completion of the Melt Shop.


NRCA employee receives


McCawley Award Mark Graham, the National Roofi ng Contrac- tors Association (NRCA) executive director of technical services, has received the Midwest Roofi ng Contractors Association's (MRCA's) 2012 James Q. McCawley Award for outstand- ing service to the roofi ng industry. In 1984, Graham began his career in the roof-


ing industry when he joined F.J.A. Christiansen Roofi ng Co. Inc., Milwaukee, as an estimator and project manager. In 1986, he joined Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates Inc., Northbrook, Ill., as a proj- ect engineer specializing in the investigation, de- sign and repair of roof and waterproofi ng systems. Graham joined NRCA in 1993 and is responsible for the association's Technical Services Section. Established in 1969, the MRCA award, named


for James Q. McCawley who dedicated his life to the advancement of the roofi ng industry, is the highest honor bestowed by MRCA. The award is presented annually to an individual in recognition for outstanding service to the roofi ng industry.


Winners announced in 2012


Armstrong i2r Design Competition Armstrong World Industries, Lancaster, Pa., an- nounced the four winners of the 2012 i2r (ideas 2 reality) professional design competition where commercial architects, interior designers and specifi ers showcase their creativity with sketches and installed project photography using Armstrong commercial Floors and Arm- strong commercial ceilings and wall systems in "idea" and "reality" categories. The competition, now in its second year,


recognizes outstanding fl oor and ceiling design as part of the beauty and function in education, health care, retail, corporate or hospitality environments. The winners were selected from more than 150 entries from across the United States. Submissions were judged on the creativity of the design, use of Armstrong products, originality of the design and the successful incorporation of other interior products. Idea winners were chosen by online popular vote and Reality winners were judged by


a respected panel of International Interior Design Association (IIDA) professionals. The 2012 i2r award winners are:

NCI Building Systems unveils marketing

Brooke Mathes- Yep has been selected to lead the development of this new model as vice president of cor- porate marketing, and Patrick Racelis has been promoted to the position of creative director. In her new role, Mathes-Yep will be accountable

for leading the development of a synergistic central marketing group encompassing market intelligence, creative services, and web and technical market- ing services, which will effectively evolve the level and quality of support provided to the company's 20 brands, while minimizing redundancies in costs. Mathes-Yep will work closely with R&D and
