Chee! Chee!
A screech rises from the rain forest. It sounds like an angry bird. It’s not. It’s just a bird showing off. It’s a Wilson’s bird of paradise. This bird is hard to miss. The skin on its head is bright blue. Red and yellow feathers shine on its back. This colorful bird rips off leaves from a branch. Snip, snip. The leaves fall to the ground. This bird wants other birds to see what it’s doing.
That’s not all this bird does. Suddenly,
the bird’s neck feathers fan out. Then the bird puffs up its green chest feathers. It hops one way. Then it hops the other
way. It shakes its curly tail feathers. It puts on quite a show. In many parts of the world, this bird
would be easy prey. Not here. Here, this bird is safe. It lives in a paradise for birds.
This is a Wilson’s bird of paradise. It shows its bright colors.
