Prab Engineers Chip Processing Systems to Improve Efficiencies and Increase Productivity

P

RAB Inc., a US-based manufacturer of custom equipment and systems for scrap metal processing and fluid filtration, works with customers globally to design robust, cost-saving designs. C&A Tool is a premier international supplier of machined specialty parts, housing operations for milling, grinding, laser sintering, and turning. Like PRAB, C&A Tool serves customers in aerospace, transportation, defense, medi- cal, and heavy industrial manufacturing sectors. A strong reputation for engineered, robust chip systems coupled with decades of metal han- dling experience is why C&A Tool partnered with PRAB to design a chip processing system that would accommodate their growing business. “I order less oil now for eight machines than I was ordering for three before we purchased the PRAB system. In addition to cost savings from

oil reclamation, the system requires very limited manpower to operate.” – Gary Sroufe, C&A Tool's multispindle expert The heart of the PRAB system includes a Vertical Axis Crusher, (VAC) with integral discharge conveyor. The VAC reduces the large volume of scrap produced from eight index multi-spindle lathes, and several multi-axis-Star CNC Swiss-type lathes. The PRAB crusher takes the large wads of turnings and reduces them by 6× the original size; quickly producing manageable and profitable scrap while leaving the shop environment clean and safe.
