SCULPTING OFFICE FURNITURE


Famous furniture designer Charles Eames is known for his innovative use of material, including molded plywood, plastic resin and cast aluminum. Aluminum casting features prominently in his Aluminum Group furniture and subtly as cast aluminum bases in his other furniture lines.


“When you’ve committed yourself to [aluminum] casting, you’ve committed yourself to a plastic material and the kind of freedom that can really


give you the willies,” Eames has said. “At that moment you fi nd yourself face to face with sculpture, and it can scare the pants off you.” 
