When the war ended, politicians and planners combined forces to rebuild London, repairing not only the damage caused by the Luftwaffe but the inadequacies of the existing infrastructure and local community services and amenities. ‘The Proud City’ tells the story of the need to re-plan with the two architects responsible, Sir Patrick Abercrombie and Mr J. H. Forshaw. The musical score is by William Alwyn. ‘London Airport’ is an account of the building of Heathrow Airport. ‘Moving Millions’ describes changes taking place in London Transport and the Underground and finally ‘Journey by a London Bus’ sees two African students experience the pleasures of trips on Routemaster buses ‘which were always on time’!
