EU-Projects
Within the project, Merck focuses on the preparation, formulation, and deposition of CIGS nanoparticles. In cooperation with IREC (Catalonia Institute for Energy Research), EMPA (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology Development) and IIT (Italian Institute of Technology) Merck is evaluating the preparation and scale-up of CIGS nanocrystals. SCALENANO is part of the EU’s FP7-ENERGY program. With a budget of more than EUR10 million, it is one of the largest R&D projects funded by the EU. For its accomplishment, an interdisciplinary consortium of 13 R&D groups has been appointed. This comprises research institutes, universities and leading companies from different industrial sectors. SCALENANO runs from February 1, 2012 to July 31, 2015.
The Norwegian Government has recently published a guide as to how the country will approach nanotechnology over the next 10 years. The document, entitled "Regjeringens FoU-strategi for nanoteknologi 2012-2021" (Government R&D strategy for nanotechnology 2012-2021), highlights three priorities: developing basic knowledge about the subject; innovation and commercialisation applications for nanotechnology; and responsible development of the area.
The country aims to develop its basic knowledge through the ‚participation of research institutions in international research cooperation, including in the EU‘s Framework Programme‘, and will look to promote the safe development of nanotechnologies by making the "EU Code of Conduct for Responsible Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies Research the norm for national R&D efforts". Furthermore the Norwegian Government plans to promote innovation and commercialisation by involving Norwegian companies in the EU‘s Framework Programme and 'developing good international standards'.

Liquid Metals Are in the Focus of a New Research Alliance
Liquid metals are the research focus of the new Helmholtz Alliance LIMTECH (Liquid Metal Technologies). The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), which coordinates the Alliance, and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) pool their competences in this network together with other Helmholtz centers and universities in Germany and abroad. LIMTECH pursues the objective of researching and continuing the development of liquid metal technologies for a broad spectrum of applications. EUR20 million have been set aside for this project.
