Universal Display Corporation (NASDAQ: PANL), has agreed a three-year strategic alliance with Plextronics to further commercialize the technology. As part of the deal, UDC has also made a $4 million investment in Plextronics, which was spun out of Carnegie Mellon University to develop conductive polymer technology initially developed there by the research group of Richard McCullough. Moreover, Fujifilm has sold and Universal Display has purchased the entire worldwide patent portfolio of more than 1,200 OLED patents and patent applications of Fujifilm for $105 million. The Company also announced its results for the second quarter of 2012. For the second quarter of 2012, the Company reported net income of $11.0 million, or $0.23 per diluted share, on revenues of $30.0 million. For the second quarter of 2011, the Company reported net income of $3.3 million, or a loss of $0.03 per diluted share, on revenues of $11.3 million. UniPixel, Inc. (UNXL), a provider of Performance Engineered Films to the touch screen, flexible printed electronics, lighting and display markets, has completed the production-level qualification of its Diamond Guard(TM) Hard Coat film with its manufacturing and distribution partner, Carestream Tollcoating. With Carestream, UniPixel has established the capacity to support large-scale volume production of more than 100 million square feet per year of Diamond Guard as either a cover glass replacement or protective cover film. UniPixel has now been able to fulfill a number of purchase orders for pilot production rolls submitted by major electronic OEMs, ODMs and film converters that are advancing product designs which take advantage of the unique characteristics of Diamond Guard.
