In March, BASF also signed a long-term license agreement with LiFePO4+C Licensing AG in Muttenz, Switzerland, to acquire global rights for the production and marketing of the innovative cathode material lithium-iron phosphate (LFP). LFP cathode materials can be used in all types of lithium-ion batteries and are most suitable for high-performance applications such as hybrid vehicles and grid storage batteries.

Bemis Company, Inc. (NYSE: BMS) has signed a joint development agreement with Thin Film Electronics ASA (OSE: THIN.OL) to develop a Bemis Intelligent Packaging Platform. The agreement will accelerate the commercial development of functional sensor labels manufactured from new and emerging printed electronic technology made from Thin Film’s proprietary read/writable printed memory and program logic. When used with Bemis packaging, the line of "intelligent" labels will monitor and record key physical properties and environmental data in packaged perishable products.
Moreover, Thin Film Electronics ASA has developed and is patenting a low-cost printable protection for ferroelectric memory products. The protection safeguards nanoscale structures from mechanical stress, including shear forces, ensuring printed memory products meet customer requirements for durability while being highly cost efficient. The low-cost printable protection is currently used in two Thinfilm Memory(TM) products: The 20-bit single-line Thinfilm Memory for consumer applications such as toys, games and info-kiosks, and the bit-scalable Thinfilm Passive Array Memory(TM), delivered as engineering samples earlier this year.

In a paper published in Nature Biotechnology, researchers at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Institute for Human Genetics and Cardiovascular Research Institute demonstrated the utility of the Irys(TM) platform from BioNano Genomics for structural variation analysis and de novo assembly of next generation sequencing (NGS) data. Using Irys, the authors were able to accurately map and comprehensively analyze structural variation in the human major histocompatibility complex (MHC) region, which is associated with autoimmune and infectious diseases.
In June, BioNano Genomics, Inc. has raised $10 million in a Series B-1 round of equity financing. Existing investors Battelle Ventures, Domain Associates and Gund Investment Corporation participated in the round.
