STAYING POSITIVE Now for some emphatically good news. PSNLive’s sister title, PSNEurope, has run extensive coverage of the problem of counterfeiting – much of it originating in the Far East – over the past five years. But in a development that indicates action to tackle the problem has been notably productive, the share of respondents reporting the problem to have ‘no impact’ rose once again this year, to a very healthy 64%. Only 12% deemed it to be a serious challenge (M9). Despite the seemingly
intractable economic considerations, there was also a strongly positive response to a question about morale levels in European pro-audio. On a rising scale of 1 to 5 (1 = low, 5 = high), the largest single share (52%) reported a very respectable 4. A mere 4% felt morale to be at rock bottom.

golden age for pro-audio manufacturers. Empowered by the possibilities of digital and, increasingly, networking, they have delivered a new generation of products that allow hire/rental companies to deliver events of unprecedented audio clarity and flexibility. Moreover, the haul of new launches at the past 12 months’ worth of trade shows suggests that the speed of development is yet to slow. This creative buoyancy is undoubtedly helping to maintain morale throughout the current, highly unpredictable economic cycle. But so, too, is a live sector that remains busy despite the gloom and considerably lower expectations of growth than in the mid- Noughties. There is still a dynamism about the business, and most people seem glad to be part of it. PSNLIVE 2012
