In the last issue of uniteWORKS we ran a story on BAE Systems Salmesbury members taking a pay cut to save colleagues’ jobs in Brough. Unfortunately our generous friends at BAE Systems Warton, now part of a joint unit with Salmesbury, were left out of the report.

Happy birthday, USW!
Unite’s partner union in Workers Uniting, the United Steelworkers Union (USW) was founded 70 years ago and a Unite delegation were proud to take part in a recent memorial event. Today the USW is the largest manufacturing union in the USA and Canada and cover many similar sectors to Unite. Unite assistant general secretary Tony Burke addressed the 70th anniversary rally bringing messages of support and solidarity from Unite, and highlighting campaigns Workers Uniting had supported each other in, including Vale Inco, Rio Tinto, and Mayr Melnhof.
