special section Resorts The Golfe Uniting the meetings industry over a game of golf
Back in 1983, professionals working in the meetings industry noticed that the number of networking golf tournaments was rising. The Golfe was established as an organization dedicated to educate those individuals in the meetings, hospitality, and travel industries to improve communication skills and fellow- ship through the game of golf. Twenty-nine years later, The Golfe is well regarded as the umbrella golf society for meeting profession- als. The Golfe currently sanctions 40 golf tournaments annually around the country, representing such organizations as ASAE, CEIR, DMAI, IAEE, MPI, Starwood Hotels &
Resorts, and Hyatt Hotels and Resorts. The winners of these events are invited to attend the MEETING MASTERS Championship, an annual event scheduled at premier golf des- tinations (that is also open to industry mem- bers who have not won a golf tournament). The Golfe also offers membership benefits
ranging from The Golfe Custom Handicap Program, mini trade shows representing facil- ities and services around the United States, industry discounts, philanthropic opportuni- ties, and much more. This year’s MEETING MASTERS Cham- pionship will take place in San Diego at the
Rancho Bernardo Inn, Nov. 14–18. The Omni Amelia Island Plantation in Amelia Island, Fla., will host the event Nov. 20–24, 2013.
