Chairman’s welcome Welcome to PAWRS 2012
I am delighted to welcome you to the UK’s number one plant and waste outdoor event where you will fi nd plenty to interest you. Last year the visitor numbers at PAWRS were over 2,000 plus
365 local authority offi cers, including the South West Waste Recycling Forum. At PAWRS 2012 we are expecting over 2,800 visitors plus around 300-400 local authority attendees. There are many reasons why you should attend PAWRS 2012. One of them is that we are entirely focused on the best interests
of our visitors. For instance, one of the differences between our show and other
waste management events is we do not scan people’s passes six times a day; nor do we exaggerate visitor numbers by including local visitors entering the site. The numbers are generated from genuine show visitors who register online and at the event. We see no point in exaggerating numbers just to make things look good. At PAWRS, the proof is in the pudding and our exhibitors walk
away at the end of the show with orders. Added to which, we believe we attract more local authority offi cers and visitors than CIWM. I fi rmly believe this is the main reason why CIWM has now joined forces with RWM and moved their show to Birmingham. From Day One I have said it was a big mistake when CIWM
moved form Paignton and many people in the waste industry agree with me. Proof of PAWRS’ success is in the number of
orders taken by exhibitors last year. Whale Tankers won a deal that was worth over £1 million, while Stock Sweepers gained a major contract worth over £250,000. Clive O’Riordan from Wheelie Bins Direct said that since he has been attending PAWRS, he has increased his company turnover by 35%. Hyva the skip manufacturer sold a demonstration unit off their stand while Julian Glasspole from Vehicle Weighing Solutions received an order worth £500,000. These are just a few
of the companies who have done very well from exhibiting at our show and for a fraction of the price that other waste events charge.
The venue at Paignton is also well known for its networking at
the Inn, On The Green and all the local restaurants which are within walking distance of the show ground. Due to the success experienced over the last three years, and
despite the recession, word of mouth about PAWRS has spread and the show is now 30% bigger than last year. We have extended both greens and the in/out stands have proved to be very popular with a standard in/out stand costing less than £990. Our outside stands are 75% cheaper than other waste exhibitions. During these diffi cult times exhibitors need as much help as
possible and we are well known in the exhibition industry for going the extra mile. In fact, I don’t know of any other exhibition that helps exhibitors to set up and our exhibitors really appreciate this. Our stewards are also on hand throughout the show to assist all
exhibitors and visitors. We would like to welcome everyone to PAWRS, especially
the skip and waste transfer station boys as all the skip lorry manufacturers are attending PAWRS in force this year. This is a fi rst in the waste industry and it will give you a fi rst hand opportunity to see a wide range of skip unit manufacturers, such as Boughtons Engineering, Marrel,Webbs, Hyva etc. No other exhibition has ever attracted all these manufacturers in the same place at the same time. This is a one-off opportunity for visitors to check out skip lifting equipment and you will see it fi rst at PAWRS 2012. A special ‘thank you’ to all our loyal exhibitors and
new ones for keeping this show alive in these diffi cult times. We look forward to seeing you all at PAWRS.
