TEENGIRL FANTASY ALBUM PREVIEW

TEENGIRL FANTASY’S debut album ‘7AM’ was a widely embraced favourite mixing dreamy, atmospheric electronics with an obvious knowledge of house and its disco and soul roots (as on the sublime ‘Cheaters’ which uses a Love Committee acapella).

Their sophomore effort finds the pairing of Nick Weiss and Logan Takahashi stepping up a gear, ditching the samples and recruiting a host of vocalists including Panda Bear, Romanthony (probably best known for Daft Punk’s ‘One More

Time’, as well as his own classic ‘Let Me Show You Love’ ), Laurel Halo and fresh new talent Kelela.

The result is what they call a “a wacked version of the pop format” blending techno, pop, R&B and house into a sound that’s immediate, emotive and informed.

‘Tracer’ will be released in the UK on 20th August on R&S Records. Listen to a preview online.

HAVING been progressively edging from deep house and adrenal techno into Bowie-esque pop and deadpan post-punk, Ghostly International man Matthew Dear seemed to fi nd his spiritual home when he moved to New York from Detroit a few years ago.

Recorded in his home studio there, then mixed in Nicolas Vernhes’ Rare Book Room studios in Brooklyn (where else?), probably over a soy latte or 12, new album ‘Beams’ (out 27th August) continues this thread which began in earnest on 2010’s excellent ‘Black City’.

MATTHEW DEAR NEW ALBUM & FREE TRACK

You can get a taster of where he is with a stream of new single ‘Her Fantasy’, a dark, intertwined texture of melodies and vocal incantations soundtracking his lyrics playing on the paranoia of love, and free track ‘Crimewaves’ which adds a summery lilt with ‘80s skanking synth lines.
