NOW THAT’S AN IDEA
Pray for Church Planting
Southern Baptists are people of action! We love to get things done. We’re good at it, too. Often we move so quickly that we plan and, sometimes, pray as we go. But as you consider your church’s vision for this summer, this year and the coming years, how will you engage your leadership and congregation in praying for God’s vision and blessing? It’s helpful to remember these three C words as you seek to involve your people in serious, purposeful intercession.

COMMUNICATE Where is God leading your church in missions, evangelism and church planting? How often are needs and vision communicated about these areas of ministry? To engage people in prayer, first engage them in Scripture, in the story of lostness and in your church’s role in changing that story. Through sermons, bulletins, social media and multimedia resources, engage imaginations for the purpose of prayer and action.

CONNECT How much space does your church devote to prayer? Is there room in your building and on your calendar for people to join in prayer? Providing time and space for small prayer teams to meet during the week builds unity, consistency, accountability and honesty. Start with one group and an hour each week then see how God expands your ministry!

COMMISSION Prayer inevitably will stir the hearts of your church members as God begins giving them a heart-deep vision for their role in His mission. However God works in their hearts, create a culture that says “go” by providing information about opportunities, ministry resources and encouragement. Just as Jesus commissioned the disciples two by two, provide wisdom and encouragement as people begin to understand and respond to God’s call.
