Ministry Spotlight:
LOVELOUD
Across North America
Big and small, established and new, Southern Baptist churches across North America are finding ways to tangibly embody the implications of the gospel of Jesus Christ by working to bring renewal and spiritual transformation to their local communities. They’ve identified areas of need among the hurting and neglected people surrounding them and responded in Christ-like love. Here’s just a sample of Southern Baptist churches—one from each region of North America—that have found ways to LoveLoud in their communities.

NORTHEAST | Gallery Church
Pastor Ellis Prince
Since their first meeting in 2010, church planter Ellis Prince and his team at the Gallery Church have been working hard to love the community of Baltimore, Md.

“We’re trying to be the best neighbors anyone can have,” Prince explains. “We look around and ask, ‘What are our neighbors struggling with and how can we help them?’ and then we grow from there.”

The city of Baltimore ranks in the top 10 of cities most affected by HIV/AIDS in the U.S. Realizing this need in their own backyard, the Gallery Church partnered with the city health department and local medical centers to host annual HIV/AIDS testing throughout the city. These events offer free HIV/ AIDS testing as well as counseling services and free meals to anyone in need. Volunteers from the Gallery Church do everything from paper work to advertising while others who received additional training test patients via mouth swab or offer optional on-site counseling services to participants.

The response to these events has been overwhelming, with upwards of 3,000 people getting tested in just three years. Certified volunteers from the church are now mobilizing to offer smaller monthly testing events in high-risk areas around the city.

“Because of these events we’ve seen a lot of HIV positive people come into our church and begin to trust us,” Prince explains. “That’s what we hope for, to show the people of Baltimore that the Church can be trusted, that we are a safe place.”
