Liability transfer facilitates major international acquisition Impaired sites in Europe, Mexico and the USA threatened a property portfolio transaction of underperforming facilities. Through liability transfer we enabled our client to demonstrate to the seller, an international chemical manufacturer, that their environmental obligations would be properly mitigated. This facilitated the transaction, and by aggressively managing the risks and designing remedial solutions, we put three of the properties back in use within five years.


Hazardous waste site to municipal park in 19 months WSP resolved a 10 year old RCRA hazardous waste site in Ohio, USA in less than 19 months. Community support for the remedial plan was paramount and our team moved quickly to show progress. The RCRA facility was remediated, the site was finished as a sustainable municipal park and the total cost was $5m less than the previous estimate.


Cost provisions cut and regeneration achieved in the UK An Active Transfer solution in the UK unlocked a regeneration scheme creating jobs at a new industrial park. A trans-Atlantic agreement saw WSP take on the environmental obligations from the former owner of an imaging chemicals production facility paving the way for the sale of the 500,000 sq ft site. The original owner benefited by the removal of provisions from their balance sheet, saving costs set aside for clean-up; and, with remediation completed ahead of schedule, we actually returned a portion of the ring-fenced funds to the project stakeholders on completion.
