National Pie Championships Late last month, the American Pie Council (APC) baked up its annual Great American Pie Festival — a flaky confection whose sweet filling included the National Pie Championships. Want a taste? See below for some of last year’s mouth-watering winners.

1 Devin Davis from Plant City, Fla., took home the Junior Chef Best in Show for his Creamy Guava Pie. 2 Naylet LaRochelle’s My Big Fat Italian Straw- berry-Basil Wedding Pie won the Amateur Innovation category. 3 All 10 Amateur win- ners brought home a blue ribbon — some more than one. 4 Amateur Nut went to Alberta Dunbar’s Choco- late Hazelnut Crunch Pie. 5 Professional Bryan Ehrenholm won the Royal Wedding category with his Engagement Ring Pie.

‘It’s Strictly Business’

Axcient CEO Justin Moore recently offered Fast Company five lessons on leadership he gleaned from “The Godfather” — all but one of them illustrated with a quote from the iconic movie:

1 Build a powerful community. “Someday, and that day may never come, I’ll call upon you to do a service for me.”

2 Hold people accountable. “What’s the matter with you? I think your brain is going soft.”

3 Don’t get emotional. “It’s not personal, Sonny. It’s strictly business.”

4 Be decisive.

5 Spend time with your family. “Do you spend time with your family? Because a man who doesn’t spend time with his family can never be a real man.”
