The five LMS basics everyone agrees on Overall, the five LMS features listed below are the ones where expectations and experience are most closely aligned, regardless of which industry our study’s participants work in. Most learning leaders, in most business sectors, expect their LMS to perform these five tasks, and are generally happy with their system’s

But top LMS priorities change depending on the business sector they are intended for. When feature requirements are mapped, by industry, to specific participant groups, more than 90% of L&D experts in the IT and telecoms industry say the ability to effectively calculate ROI on training spend is priority one. In the finance and legal sector the same feature is considered less important. Instead, learning/certification paths, social media, online assessments and reporting, all win votes from at least 90% of WishList participants. In government, public sector, military and defence, the ability to calculate ROI falls even further down the list and reporting, user management and managing e- learning become the most wanted features1.
