PLANNING A VOCATIONAL ROUTE

Mohammed Khurram European Import Operator Apprenticeship and Level 2 and 3 in Business Management at Gordon Franks Training, Birmingham

The transport and logistics industry is weathering the economic downturn, and with ambitious young managers such as Mohammed Khurram learning how to run businesses and manage staff effectively, its future looks bright. After completing his City & Guilds in Business Management, Mohammed was named Regional Apprentice of the Year at the 2009 West Midlands Apprentice Awards and was awarded a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence. Since then, he’s been selected as an

Apprenticeship Ambassador by the National Apprenticeship Service, and has had the chance to meet Gordon Brown and Lord Sugar. ‘I want to succeed in business and being able to take advice from Lord Sugar was great. He’s a massive inspiration.’ Now working at Anglia Forwarding, Mohammed has since used the skills he learned from his vocational qualifications to complete a foundation degree. ‘I wouldn’t have been able to get on to the degree course without my City & Guilds qualifications, so I’m very glad I’ve done them. Now I’m managing people older than me – so as well as confidence, I find the qualifications have earned me respect too.’
