DJ FRESH FEATURING DIZZEE RASCAL ‘THE POWER’MINISTRY OF SOUND

GIVEN the current state of artists reaching out for the big bucks, we were half expecting this to be a re-make of Snap’s ‘The Power’. Instead it’s an odd combination of boyband auto-tuned vocals, sunny disco synths and fi dgety bass. And that’s without mentioning everyone’s favourite chart-friendly ex-grime MC Dizzee. DJ Fresh was once part of Bad

Company who wrote ‘The Pulse’ and ‘The Nine’, two of tech-step’s most menacing moments, and has proven he’s got the Midas touch to write d&b anthems with ‘Gold Dust’. This time around, we’re not convinced, but Zane Lowe is behind it so it’s bound to be massive. Let us know what you think on Facebook. ‘The Power’ is released in June.

PHIL WEEKS

COMING from the same school of blunted MPC skill as Chicago legend DJ Sneak, Parisian house gangster Phil Weeks has earned top marks for his jackin’ fi ltered house sound. With his third album ‘Raw Instrumentals’ released last month on Robsoul, he dropped us this exclusive live mix from his appearance at the Homecoming party in Miami this year. Mixing

up classic US sounds – from the likes of the elusive Theo Parrish and Strictly legend George Morel – with the hordes of European producers inspired by it (such as Trentemoller and DJ W!ld), it’s straight-up, groove- driven house goodness for the heads.
