DEFORMATION (MIKE PARKER REMIX) ABSTRACT DIVISION MIKE PARKER DYNAMIC REFLECTION

AS a founding member of Depeche Mode and the main songwriter of their dark gothic electro-pop, there probably aren’t many people who haven’t heard a track touched by Martin Gore. Tracks such as ‘Personal Jesus’ remain radio staples, while ‘Enjoy The Silence’ has been remixed by everyone from Goldfrapp to Ewan Pearson.

Having won numerous industry awards in recognition of the band’s achievement, as well as continued to tour, it would have been easy for Martin to rehash old glories whilst admiring the various coloured discs on his wall. But with the EDM craze sweeping the States, where he

lives in California, he’s clearly decided to show the new wave of kids that they aren’t the first to make electronic music.

Teaming up with Vince Clarke, another of Depeche Mode’s founding members who left in 1981 and subsequently went on to work as Yazoo and Erasure, new project VCMG finds them delving into the world of minimal techno on ‘Ssss’ (out now on Mute). Stark, dark and industrial, it owes as much to Richie Hawtin as it does to Cabaret Voltaire and shows that Gore might be bringing his leather harnesses to a club near you soon.
