SURFING
There have been people surfing on the east coast of Scotland since the 1960s. There are plenty of hot spots if you are a surfing enthusiast or if you’re just a fan. Thurso hosts the annual O’Neill Highland Open Surfing Competition. It is known as one of the coldest surf contests in the world and is attended by the world’s best surfers.

GOLF
As the birthplace of golf, it should be no surprise that the sport has a truly universal appeal in Scotland. Many local authorities offer ‘passport to play’ schemes. These entitle you to experience a set number of rounds at courses that are part of the scheme.

CYCLING SAILING
The coastal waters around the north west of Scotland provide a range of cruising grounds with some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world, offering clean air, excellent facilities, and a superb welcome. FISHING
Salmon is the king of fish in Scotland and there are plenty of world-famous rivers to cast your fly on. Many of the rivers’ ‘beats’ are set in private estates where you have to obtain a licence, but you get the added bonus of fishing in some of the most beautiful surroundings in the world.

Scotland is great for cycling, with wonderful terrain, and good road links for getting there. Come rain or shine, there are routes to be explored. As well as rural areas, the cities offer plenty of scenic routes and shortcuts for getting through town. Southern Scotland is home to the 7 stanes which has trails suitable for everyone. No matter how experienced, it guarantees some of the world’s best mountain biking.
