I am delighted to welcome you to the sixth edition of the largest gathering of the meetings and events industry in the Middle East. This year, GIBTM promises to inspire, motivate and prepare you to tackle your next meeting, event, conference or incentive project with confidence. As with every edition of GIBTM, our event programme is carefully designed to offer a true representation of the meetings, events and business travel industry in the Middle East, which has in itself experienced an exciting level of growth over the past 12 months. The regional meetings industry is thriving as last year saw approximately 1.3 million business travellers arriving in Abu Dhabi alone - of which 215,000 arrived specifically for MICE related activities. The UAE recorded a rise of 7.6% in air traffic last year compared to 2010, credited to the expanding business and tourism sector.
GIBTM has the largest showcase of solutions for planning MICE activities that the region has to offer. The 2011 EIBTM Industry Trends and Market Share Report indicated that 35% of global buyers anticipate placing business in the Middle East in 2012.
