n enthralling evening was had by all at the Footwear Industry Awards, held at the Forest of Arden Hotel on Sunday 19th February 2012 to coincide with the Moda Show at Birmingham
NEC. We hope it will be the first of many more such awards events in the years to come! It was a pleasure to meet so many of our readers, including independent footwear retailers from our Best Sellers Panel, as well as agents and manufacturers, both at the awards event and at the Moda Show the following day. All agreed, it was the best Moda we’ve visited for a long time. The show had a real buzz about it and on Sunday buyers were waiting to see reps on stands, rather than them standing waiting for customers to come on. Manufacturers had made a much bigger effort to make their
stands more inviting. Lunar had a stand that made you want to go on and look. It also has a great Autumn/Winter 2012 collection and had some great styles on show at competitive prices. On Sunday the stand was packed! As for product, the buyers I spoke to felt Rieker and Seibel had
excellent collections, well priced and plenty of new ideas. Ara had good waterproof ranges and some well priced shoes, which was an area the whole trade was short of last year. In the more contemporary brands Fly London was fantastic with some superb new designs, but still commercial. Manas continue to be one of the main boot suppliers with a good range. Cat had a small but very commercial collection of ladies boots. One of the best new brands has to be MJUS, the buyers I spoke to can’t wait to get them in. Another great ladies range to watch is Khrio. Aetrex has some
lovely heeled peep-toe women’s heeled shoes and their waterproof Heather tall riding boot in leather or suede with a comfortable stretch sweater design is a good buy. Rieker Men’s footwear was excellent last year and looks even
better for 2012. On the more formal side John White had excellent welted product at competitive prices and some very good slightly sharper product with rubber soles, also an excellent buy.
