Sheffield Forgemasters Wins $3.3 Million Order From ATI Ladish Sheffield Forgemasters Internation-


al, Sheffield, U.K., has signed a $3.3 million contract to supply castings for one of the world’s largest counter- blow hammer presses. Te contract is the fourth order


placed with Forgemasters by ATI Ladish, Cudahy, Wis., and brings the sales total between the companies to about $6.5 million. Te latest order is for the upper and lower rams for ATI Ladish Forgings’ number 85 press. At 165 and 155 metric tons, the castings will be delivered to ATI’s Cudahy- based forging plant, which services the aerospace industry with titanium parts. “I have been working with ATI


Ladish for three years on the detail of this contract and...consider them one of our best clients,” said Michael Holloway, senior sales manager at Forgemasters. “Te size of this latest batch of castings requires them to be finish-machined in a vertical boring machine which is capable of operating up to 5.5 meters in height.” Counter-blow presses operate two hammers, or rams, which work in oppo- sition. Te castings will form the main rams which drive the counter-blow hammer faces together and will measure 16 x 11 x 13 ft. for the upper ram and


Closed Somerset Plant Seeks Buyer


Ferrous caster Somerset Foundries,


Somerset, Pa., entered talks last month with a potential buyer that intended to continue operating the facility. According to company controller Linda Heining, Somerset will be liqui- dated if a deal cannot be reached. “We’re hoping to see if we can sell


the property to be operational,” she said. But at some point, Heining said the company will “quit hoping and settle with a liquidator.” Te green sand and nobake facility


serves a variety of end-use industries. According to Heining, the company is- sued its closing notice on Dec. 30, 2011, because it was not profitable.
