GOURMET CAMP CUPPAS WARMTH AND HISTORY IN YOUR MUG
Hot Chocolate S’mores • package of your favorite hot chocolate mix • large marshmallows • graham crumbs or graham crackers, crushed • brown sugar • lemon wedge • chocolate syrup
Rub the rim of your mug with the lemon wedge and dip the rim in a blend of graham crumbs and sugar. While your water is boiling, toast a couple marshmallows over the campfire, taking care to slowly brown them without burning. Mix up your hot chocolate, put the toasted marshmallows on top and drizzle with syrup.
Shield Country Tea • handful of Labrador tea leaves • couple sprigs of eastern white cedar • pure maple syrup
Add leaves and cedar to a pot of water and bring to a boil over medium heat. Serve with a dollop of pure maple syrup to sweeten. Native Americans have long known the health benefits of Labrador tea and cedar; rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, this golden brew will alleviate cold symptoms, upset stomach and hangover. It’s also a great relaxation beverage before bed. Find Labrador tea shrubs growing widespread in lowland bogs—the leathery green leaves are furry yellow-orange underneath and have a powerful lemony aroma when crushed. —Vince Paquot
