Let’s THIS MONTH WE VISIT MORRIS LESLIE SOUTH EAST LTD IN BURGESS HILL

How long have you been trading? Burgess Hill depot was first established as Service Engineers Diesel Ltd back in 1964, this then turned into SED Ltd in 1981, and then was purchased by the original Cox Plant in 1986. We relocated to our present site in 1990 where we became part of the Morris Leslie Group in early 2005. What are your opening hours? Mon – Fri 07:30 – 17:00 & Sat 08:00 – 12:00

How many employees do you have? Burgess Hill depot we have 6

Which is your busiest day? Every day is a busy day here lol

Do you have many regular customers? Yes many regular customers from all over the Sussex area. Since we are a plant/tool hire & sales company we don’t just sell, we offer an all-round service. This has attracted many customers from the trade to DIY, and now we have self-storage facilities in our yard which has added to the regulars.

When is your busiest time of year? Why do you think this is? It all depends on the weather the drier / warmer months tend to be busiest with the landscapers / builders / gardeners and DIYers alike being able to get on without weather worries.

Jason Jones, Manager of the Burgess Hill branch.

Do particular lines sell well at different times of year? If so, which ones? This again is a weather related with autumn / winter boosting our sales in Stihl blowers / rakes heaters and bottled gas. And spring / summer with strimmers, mowers and other garden related products and again bottled gas for the BBQ

Do you encourage reps to visit? Yes the more product knowledge we can get from them the better it is for us and our customer

Why do you deal with particular tool companies? We try and deal direct with most of the manufacturers we use such as Stihl, Oregon, Bosch, and Silverline to name few it keeps the cost down since there is no middle man and the service and spares back up is a lot better

How would a company with good products to sell come to your notice? Mostly through trade shows & Magazines such as this and the Internet.

Do you have a surprising ‘best seller’? Our large selection of work wear has done very well and again we buy direct from the manufacturer so to keep the price competitive.

How do you see the future of the tool trade? I believe the tool trade is doing very well and the tool hire is busy too, many people seem to be buying or hiring tools and doing the jobs themselves rather than get gardeners/builders in to save money.
