Welcome to the March edition of ToolBUSINESS+HIRE Magazine. This month we report back on two important events in the Trade Show calendar, Totally Tools and the Executive Hire Show. As I write this, we are also preparing for the Internationale Eisenwarenmesse Hardware Show in Cologne, which runs from 4th to 7th March. This show provides a unique opportunity for the specialist trade to obtain information on the new innovations from the tools and fastening industry and for industrial supplies. A total of 2,600 exhibitors from 50 countries are expected to attend and trade visitors will be able to look forward to viewing many new products and keeping abreast of current trends. This month Peter Brett has been very busy and there are six
independent tool reviews for you to read. These are a Metabo Cordless Drill with a longer lasting battery, a Cordless Glue Gun from Rapid, a staple gun with a high level of stapling and nail power from Arrow, a powerful new Mitre Saw from Fox, a high quality Cordless Jigsaw from Festool and a Marcrist Tile Drilling System . The Voice of the Industry returns to the subject of a feature we
ran last month, giving information on the forthcoming new series on Channel 4 from Mary Portas, Queen of Shops. We asked small independent shop owners if they would be interested in being considered for this new programme. We have had some interest in this and there is still time for you to reply if you have not already done so. All the information you need is in the 193 February edition of ToolBUSINESS+HIRE Magazine which can be viewed on the archive page of our website,
www.toolbusiness.co.uk In the current financial crisis it is unfortunately becoming a
common occurrence to see empty shops on our High Streets. New figures released recently state that big High Street chains closed an average of 14 stores a day across Britain in 2011. Multiple retailers like bookshops, electrical stores, home furnishings and menswear fell in numbers whilst charity shops, pound stores and credit unions bucked the trend. Retail space landlords report that many tenants are struggling to keep open and although in the short term some rents can be reduced, this solution is not sustainable in the long run. There is also a problem with high business rates and there seems to be no system of negotiation on these when times are bad. We hope that here at ToolBUSINESS+HIRE Magazine we continue to help your business to thrive by giving you the information you need to keep up with all the latest products in the specialist tool and equipment industry. For those of you attending the show in Cologne I hope it proves a successful and enjoyable few days and Christine Belinda and I look forward to seeing many of you there.
