Your Union

Elect your Executive

Voting in the NUT’s Executive elections means you are helping decide who runs our Union between 2012 and 2014.

The Executive develops and oversees union policy agreed each year at the NUT conference. Each region in England and Wales has its own Executive member who represents members in that region.

There are also three equality seats for Executive members who represent black, disabled and LGBT members. Nominations for these seats have been made through local NUT associations, and NUT members now have the chance to vote on who will represent them. You have to be registered to vote in the equality constituency elections.

Ballot papers are being sent out on 7 March by the independent scrutineer, Electoral Reform Services, to those members who are eligible to vote in all contested seats (where there is more than one candidate). The contested seats are in districts 5, 8, 9, 10, 14 and 27.

The black, disabled and LGBT constituency seats will also be contested.

Some members may receive more than one ballot paper. Members who registered in the equality constituencies will receive a ballot paper for the appropriate equality seat/s as well as for their district seat (if contested).

All those in membership when balloting opens (7 March) in districts where elections are being held are eligible to vote.

Student members are not eligible to vote in these Executive elections.

If you don’t receive your ballot paper by 14 March 2012 call the ballot hotline on 020 7380 4825 with your membership number to hand. The ballot closes on 28 March 2012.

Further information on these elections, including the contested seats, can be found on our website at www.teachers.org.uk/your-union/elections
