HALO (ORIGINAL MIX) DOC DANEEKA, BENJAMIN DAMAGE 50 WEAPONS

MODESELEKTOR’S 50 Weapons series has been sweeping up the freshest talents from the UK scene, releasing bass heavy battlers custom made to cause maximum carnage on the floor. So it was a pleasant surprise that after signing Welsh duo Benjamin Damage & Doc Daneeka their second release was an album ‘They!Live’ (out now).

Recorded in just ten week of all-night sessions, the album refracts the pair’s UK bass sensibilities through the walls of Berlin’s techno bubble aided by their experimentations in Modeselektor’s high-rise Berlin

studio.

Packed with dark dancefloor cuts like the zombified amens of ‘Creeper’, it also reveals a deeper side like the virtually beatless ‘Halo’ which floats over a crackly haze like a long lost Massive Attack track.

Digging into their CD wallet, they present a similarly balanced array of secret weapons, from the main room tunnel techno of Shed in his EQD guise to the Arthur Russell sounding ‘So Will Be Now’, the undoubted highlight of John Talbot’s recent ‘Fin’ album for Permanent Vacation.
