Trapper Nelson's Cabin is a time capsule to a lifestyle that is all but extinct. On the way back in the pontoon boat, the sight I'd waited for was finally there. All cameras were clicking as a mother and baby manatee were serenely munching on man- grove and grasses at the shore of the murky waters.
The camp still stands today, with his cabin, two guest cabins, a chicken shelter, docks, a boat- house, and assorted cages from his zoo. There are also fruit trees that he planted, including surinam cherry, Java plum and wild almond.
And today? Folks don’t hang around Trapper’s Camp after dark. Chances are . . . they just might meet up with him . . . and he was a big, big man.

CCC Band to Present Concert
The Coastal Communities Concert (CCC) Band will present their 29th Anniversary Concert on Sunday, February 19, at 2pm, at the Carlsbad Community Church, Jefferson & Pine Streets, in Carlsbad. The award-winning Band and director Dr. Robert Fleming will welcome guest French Horn soloist MSG Joseph Lovinsky. Lovinsky is the Principal Hornist in the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," the Army Brass Quintet, the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, and the Washington Ballet. He is also Professor of Horn at Howard University. Vincent Cason of the Miami Times called him "
