Total Gas & Power Scoops Prestigious Community Award for Primary School Initiative

T

otal Gas & Power, one of the UK’s leading gas and electricity suppliers to businesses, has scooped a prestigious national award for the company’s educational Total Green School Awards initiative.

The awards initiative was established in partnership with the Young People’s Trust for the Environment, encouraging primary school children aged five to eleven to take a proactive interest in the natural environment around them. With over 25,000 young people taking part from schools across the country each year, the initiative brings environmental issues to life, rewarding pupils for thinking about ways we can live in harmony with nature. As part of the initiative, schools undertake a wide range of projects. These have included the creation of an interactive nature reserve and the production of a documentary video detailing energy saving measures.

Total beat off stiff competition from across the UK’s utilities sector to win the coveted ‘Community Initiative of the Year’ award at the Utility Industry Achievement Awards, held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. Judges were impressed with the breadth of the scheme and the way it tied into the national curriculum.

“This award is fantastic recognition of the importance Total Gas & Power places on education and innovation in helping to shape the future of environmental sustainability. The hard work our staff put in to exciting young people’s imaginations and inspiring them to think about the world around them is something that I think we can all be very proud of,” said John Shead, Director, Total Gas & Power.
