doubling capacity to 36m tonnes of ore per year the aitik copper mine is one of the biggest copper mines in europe and Boliden is investing sek 5.2bn in expanding to double its capacity. wsp has been heavily involved in aitik for a long time. the expansion requires extensive conversion work and extra buildings which has seen us complete around 25,000 hours of planning across construction, land, electricity, building services and fire. the expansion needs a completely new dressing plant, two new ore beds, new water recycling and a new ore concentrate terminal, as well as a new industrial area including a truck workshop, welding workshop, office and storeroom.
increasing platinum capacity from 3.5m oz to 5m anglo american platinum had plans for increasing precious metals refinery capacity from 3.5 million oz to 5 million oz at the rustenburg mine. angloamerican platinum is committed to undertaking activities with respect for local social, environmental and economic conditions and appointed us to undertake the emp amendment process. this included project management, scoping report, impact assessment, management plan and facilitating the stakeholder engagement process.
comprehensive environmental baseline for a gold mine wsp conducted a comprehensive environmental baseline study including air quality modelling, mine wastes and soil characterisation, surface water and groundwater quality as well as biodiversity and ecosystems assessments for anglogold ashanti at the siguiri gold mine in the republic of guinea. the study formed the foundation for developing closure plan objectives for open pits, waste rock dumps, a cyanide heap leach facility and the tailings storage facility.
