a system to flag risk and deliver compliance consol energy (the usa’s largest producer of high-Btu bituminous coal) need to manage enormous amounts of field and laboratory data across multiple mining facilities and states to satisfy various regulatory agencies. we developed erims, an online information management system. it supports millions of analytical records collected from over 9,000 sample points and outputs over 5,000 reports per year for submittal to regulatory agencies. its processes and reporting alert systems are estimated to save consol energy around $500,000 usD per year by enabling them to easily meet compliance obligations and to act swiftly on any environmental risks.
