Zion National Park is a spectacular sanctuary of towering mountains, sandstone cliffs, narrow- slot canyons, soaring arches and waterfalls that create a setting of unparalleled beauty. Zion is, without question, a photographer’s dream. Trails for hikers of all abilities allow exploration of the main canyon – with its emerald pools and wooded valley – and into the park’s upper reaches of sandstone and open desert. UTAH STATE PARKS


When visiting Utah, it pays to take a step outside the beaten path to see one of Utah’s unique 43 State Parks. The sights and surroundings range from the serene turquoise waters of Bear Lake State Park, which supplies some of the best fi shing in the state, to the red canyon views of Dead Horse Point State Park, which sits 2,000 feet

MONUMENT VALLEY NAVAJO TRIBAL PARK


Perhaps the most-photographed landscape in America, this valley of monoliths and buttes has been a favourite Hollywood backdrop for 80 years. Still a traditional Navajo homeland, the valley is now accessible by private vehicle and guided tours on entry-limited roads. While no backcountry hiking or biking is allowed, horseback tours are available. www.navajonationparks.org
