U.S. OPEN: 11 champions were crowned in Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle wrestling at the U.S. Open in December in Arlington, Texas. Those champions gained momentum for the upcoming Olympic Trials in April.


TERRY STEINER: The U.S. National Women’s Freestyle Coach has led his team to back-to-back, top-five finishes at the World Championships, but he is nowhere near satisfied with the Olympics on the horizon in 2012.


TERVEL’S TIME: World bronze medalist Tervel Dlagnev has placed in the top five in the World in two of the past three years. Now he’s ready to make a run at winning an Olympic gold medal this season at heavyweight.


MAROULIS MAKING MARK: Helen Maroulis enjoyed a productive 2011 where she placed second at the Junior World Championships and fifth in the Senior Worlds. She started strong this year by winning the U.S. Open.


PASSING OF A LEGEND: Myron Roderick, one of the most influential figures in American wrestling history, died in December at age 77. He made an amazing impact as an athlete, college coach, administrator and visionary.
