gutsiest performance in a very tough weight class. She beat an Olympic cham- pion, an Olympic silver medalist and a World silver medalist. She really showed some guts, especially in the win over China. She lost the first period and was down 5-0 in the second period before coming back to win. That was impressive. I could sense in camp this summer that

Ali had a sense of urgency to get this done. It was good to see her get reward- ed for her hard work. She has really matured a lot and she’s opened up a lot with her wrestling. We are excited to see what Ali can do in the Olympic year. What were your overall impressions of your team’s performance at the Pan American Games?


Clarissa lost to Olympic champion Carol Huynh (of Canada) in the finals. Clarissa, if she just wrestles, there is not a person who can stay with her. She just has to wrestle. She was close to making the finals of the Olympics in 2008. She just has to open up and do it.


Helen had a great win in the finals over


2011 World silver medalist Tonya Verbeek (of Canada). That was a big win. Anytime


you beat somebody like Verbeek, it’s a big win. From a young person’s perspec- tive, to beat a top veteran like Verbeek that does wonders for your mind. Elena came up short in the finals against Cuba, but she’s beaten that girl before and we know Elena’s capable of being the best in the World. She showed what she’s capable of when she won a World silver medal (in 2010). Two-time World bronze medalist
