POINT BLANK’S UNIQUE GLITCH FX WITH RE-SAMPLING

PRODUCTION TIP OF THE WEEK CREATE YOUR OWN

JONNY MILLER SHOWS YOU HOW TO CREATE SOME GLITCHY SOUND EFFECTS USING ABLETON LIVE’S VINYL DISTORTION DEVICE

THERE are a few effects devices within Live that on fi rst glance, may seem like they only do one basic thing. The Vinyl Distortion device’s main job for example, is to emulate the sound of an old dusty record, popping and crackling away on demand to add a retro effect to clean digital sounds.

In this week’s video (above) Point Blank tutor Jonny Miller (Sonarpilot Audio) shows us that beyond its main function, and with a little help from some of the other effects devices, Vinyl Distortion can be used to create a whole range of glitchy, clicky noises that can sit rather neatly in and around your beats.

It is through experimenting with techniques such as these that you can build up your own unique library of

samples and begin to develop a signature sound – crucial to differentiating yourself in a world where thousands of producers are drawing from the same sound sources for inspiration. If you want to learn more techniques such as this our online courses start on 6th Feb.
