Volleyball Athletes/Teams of the Year honored by USA Volleyball


International success


U.S. WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM | USA Volleyball Indoor Team of the Year 2011: The team qualifi ed for the 2012 Olympic Games by virtue of its second-place fi nish at the FIVB World Cup. The team posted a 39-10 overall record and claimed fi ve podium fi nishes in six international competitions. One of the team’s two gold medals came at the 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix, the premier annual international volleyball tournament for women. The Americans, now ranked No. 1 in the world, defeated rival Brazil 3-0 on Aug. 28 to win the event.


KATIE HOLLOWAY | USA Volleyball’s Sitting Female Athlete of the Year 2011: Holloway (Lake Stevens, Wash.) was named the most valuable player at two international tournaments during a season that saw the U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team earn a spot in the 2012 London Paralympics.


EMILY DAY / EMILY HUGHES | USA Volleyball Beach Team of the Year 2011: Day and Hughes, who played together at Loyola Marymount Uni- versity, competed in a combined 16 domestic interna- tional events for the season. A third-place fi nish at the Manhat- tan Open and a fourth-place showing at the Pan American Games in Puerto Rico were some of the highlights.


LINDSEY BERG | USA Volleyball Indoor Female Athlete of the Year 2011: Berg (Honolulu) was named the U.S. Women’s National Team captain at the end of the season and helped the squad a secure an Olympic Games berth at the FIVB World Cup. She had 27 match starts and averaged 8.48 assists per set in three tournaments.
