2012 will not only see our fantastic key annual events, but also specific UK wide celebrations linked to the Diamond Jubilee and Olympic Torch Relay and a wonderful array of new festivals unique to York.
York 800 – throughout 2012
Celebrating York’s 800th anniversary as an independent city able to elect its own council and Lord Mayor and govern itself, York 800 brings together the very best of the city past, present and future. A full year of events and festivals will mark this significant birthday and Charter Weekend 7th-9th July will see city wide festivities.

York’s Chocolate Festival (6 - 9 April 2012)
Visit York for the first ever Chocolate Festival. The four day event will celebrate the many chocolate products that have been created in the city such as Chocolate Orange, Smarties, Aero, and Kit Kat, focusing on local artisan chocolate makers and skilled chocolatiers. A Chocolate Market will showcase fine quality creations and venues will tell their own story of York's Chocolate past. There will be chocolate tastings and workshops. Railfest (2 - 10 June 2012)
Feel the energy at this huge celebration of Britain’s biggest ever railway festival. Get up close to record- breaking locomotives, ride on trains big and small, climb inside drivers’ cabs and stand on footplates. Admission to the National Railway Museum is free, however Railfest 2012 will be a paid admission event.

Science and Innovation Grand Tour (June – August 2012)
