Must See York Itinerary
On arrival in York a visit to the Minster is a must. This is Northern Europe's largest Gothic Cathedral and took over 250 years to complete. Guided tours can be taken and last around an hour.
‘Behind the Scenes Hidden Minster Tours’ are a great way to enjoy those areas of the Minster that were previously off limits to visitors. If you have a head for heights visit the Masons’ Loft, Chapter House roof and Five Sisters Window.
No visit to the city would be complete without having walked the walls. Try the stretch from Bootham Bar to Monk Bar - you will not be disappointed.
Take a stroll down the Shambles, York’s most famous medieval street. Once the home to butchers and you can still see the meat hooks to this day.
The JORVIK Viking Centre literally flies visitors through a reconstruction of the Viking Age.
Stop for lunch at the Old White Swan for a proper pub experience.
Delve into York's past at York Castle Museum or treat your group to a traditional afternoon tea at Bettys Café Tea Rooms. How decadent!
Next stop, the National Railway Museum. Explore the three giant halls full of trains and railway legends. You will find all the classics here from Mallard and Queen Victoria's Royal Carriages to modern day examples such as Eurostar and Shinkansen.
