ILTM 2011 | POST SHOW REVIEW

The Global Luxurian

On Monday 5 December 2011, the who’s who of the global luxury travel community gathered for the opening ILTM Ultratravel Forum in Cannes. With ILTM celebrating 10 years at the forefront of luxury travel, the industry was keen to learn what the future holds. The Future Laboratory’s report ‘The Global Luxurian’ led us through a journey of the luxury consumer by age and considered how their formative years and circumstances inform their current and future attitude and behaviour.

The ‘New Luxurian’ report considered the following key ‘ages’ of the luxury travel consumer:

NEW MILLENNIAL LUXURIANS

Mature market New Millennials (28 – 35) grew up in a stable time of rising affluence, confidence and abundance. Emerging market New Millennials grew up in a time of scarcity. Brand-conscious and keen to spend, Millennials will spend more than Baby Boomers by 2017.

THIRTYFIVEUP LUXURIANS

Key concepts for ThirtyfiveUp Luxurians are craftsmanship, artisanship, heritage, sustainability and simplicity. They like simple escapes.

12 THEINSIDER GENERATION JONES LUXURIANS

High earners aged between 45-55, looking after their parents and their children, Generation Jonesers are finding the recession means their money is not going as far as it used to. With all the pressures they face in their lives, Jonesers want to do something that helps them escape from their daily lives. Health programmes at Chiva-Som, one of the worlds leading health-treatment resorts, help clients to recover in total privacy and complete relaxation. The secluded beauty and serenity of the resort ensures guests develop a true new spirit – with a balanced mind and a recovered body – the ultimate in personalisation.

BABY BOOMER LUXURIANS

Despite the recession-inflicted dent in their finances, Baby Boomers continue to hold a strong grip on the luxury travel market. They are increasingly interested in healthcare and wellbeing with breaks that produce measurable results.
