Six lawyers have commemorated the fif- ty-second anniversary of passing the Ver- mont bar exam in 1959. They held a fourth reunion dinner on Friday, October 14, 2011, this time at the Chef’s Table in Mont- pelier. Remarkable as it now may seem, there were only sixteen persons taking the Vermont bar exam at the one exam session conducted in 1959. All were men, and four- teen passed. Five of the fourteen are now deceased.


The six attending this reunion dinner, with five wives, were (in alphabetical or- der): Andy Field of Barre, Joe Frank of South Burlington, John Hutton of Shel- burne, Steve Martin of Barre, Tom Salmon of Rockingham, and Ted Tyler of Highgate Springs. John Williams of Bennington was unable to attend. The addresses of Dick Schmidt and Roger Bartels, both living out of state, were not ascertained in time to in- vite them. The Vermont lawyers who took the Ver-


mont bar exam in 1959 are the only class of admittees to the Vermont bar who are known to hold reunions. The gathering was so convivial that a fifth reunion dinner will be held in 2013.
